Thank you all, guys. Some you win, some you lose. Gotta make the best of both and learn the most.

A 1.5' pleco rescue from our former life in Rochester NY. 4000 gal rubber pond in the basement:

We regularly get common pleco rescues. They clean all of our glass tanks for us. We never place them in acrylic tanks, some of those are cleaned by Prochilodus species.

Just to show that in captivity, common pleco can reach record sizes, here one of our oldest ones that just passed away at 21 inch:

- The so called "high-back" pleco, which are actually poor, crooked hunchback,
- some other oldest and biggest pleco,
- a small rescue ~8" named Meryl (don't ask me :) ) to who the girl who brought it with her father was strongly emotionally attached...
- the last 2 photos are of a rescue common pleco named Sir Leo, at almost 15 years old, also over 20":

Clown pleco, rescued 6 years ago, passed. IDK for what reason. Nor do I know how long they live for.

How's 15 (well 16 as of 2022) year old Leo doing as of today? He might be one of the only common plecos to get a shot at living a full lifespan out in captivity.

Thank you for reading the thread. Sir Leo threw in the towel several years back. What's their full lifespan? In our hands our rescues seem to live around a decade but it seems short...

The common pleco that had gone into the tank with Louie for some reason dislikes him and tries to drive him away from self:
