Ph swing or maybe something went wrong while eating, what did you feed, what is your substrate, plz provide any details about the feeding, and did anything weird happen during water change? Any heaters in the tank itself?

Substrate is Lapis Lustre #1C. I have used it with rays for years, its not part of the issue. I think you guys are correct in pH swing.

Does your house have a whole house filter or water softener bro?

Seeing as the only thing that has changed is your use of the garden hose, consider this. Some garden hoses are treated by the manufacturer with mold & mildew inhibitors, and are not meant for humans to drink out of, or to fill fish tanks, especially if the hose has been outside baking in the sun. PVC garden hoses use lead as a stabilizer, and again when left out in the sun that lead leaches out. I first posted this link 7 yrs ago, which is why the article is so old.

Good luck, I hope that your fish pulls through.

RD likely nailed it but I will say, I would never do a 40% WC on my rays unless it was an emergency. City tap water is unpredictable around here.
