I just got a xp4 to replace the xp2 in my 75. I already have a big sump on this tank with lots of bio balls so I've been running the xp2 with just filter pads and a bio-zorb pouch. My question is: should I lose the ceramic rings and bio chem stars in the the xp4? if so how should I configure this? I'm thinking I could add more pads or bio zorb pouches. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Considering my GTs size and the plecos I have, my tank might be a little over stocked. I have to do water changes every four days or I have a bad blue/green algea problem. I want to be able to leave for vacation and not do water changes for up to 10 days. also this was a craigslist score, almost new for $50. I had some time so this is already set up. I used 20 ppm pads in the 1st section 30 ppm in the 2nd, two bio zorb pouches in the 3rd and two micro filtration pads in the 4th. I can move the 20 and 30ppm pads all together and make room for the ceramic rings as a buffer as you said.
