How long do flowerhorns live?

Hello I read a thread saying that modern flowerhorns typically live 3 years... Can they live as long as pure breed cichlids? Also does strain have any play into lifespan because here's mine right here

yep that thread pretty much sums it up. Most people don't keep theirs longer than 3 years. It's a designer fish that people treat like leasing a pretty car or rent a center furniture. Those that do keep theirs around can expect a life expectancy of about 4 to 10 years LOL It's a genetic grab bag with hybrids. They're mutts bred by people who probably didn't have their best interests in mind health wise. I have noticed the fish that live longer than 5 years usually have a real big tank or aquarium to themselves. Give your fish the best life you can, stress kills- the rest is up to genetics
