This thing is a beast. I love it. It's not eloquent like an Eheim smooth purr sound during startup but it's full of brute muscles like a rumbling engine of a classic car. Btw the bucket or bin underneath is just an insurance policy for minor leaks.

Fluval fx6 - fx5 is not bad filter.
I never owned one but read alot about it.
I'm using Eheim 2262. But fluval cost a lot less... Both have + and -
Maybe one day i will try 1 :)

Thought my FX5 did a great job but I really hated cleaning that beast. Just could not bring myself to do it every month.

we got a hater. LoL we would not drive a car without insurance so why risk running a canisters without a bucket under. As you can see in the pic I do this to my Eheim Pro2 as well. I like to keep my floor clean and looking new.

its half the price of Eheim 2262. Fx6 is a good filter but it's noisier than my pro2 2028. I think of my FX6 like a classic muscle car and Eheim pro2 as my around town cruising car.

i don't plan to clean every month. I plan to reverse siphon monthly and clean every six months. This is a feature Eheim canisters do not have.

Before I get flamed for my filter cleaning schedule I feed lightly so cleaning monthly is overkill.

All comes down to preference. I replaced my FX5 with 2 AC110s. Much easier to clean but there things about the FX5 I miss. I regret not going with a sump :(

They are awesome filters, and the vertical sponge orientation of fluval I think is an awesome bonus, especially with messy fish.

As for cleaning it, apart from being a big filter, so hard to get to the place I clean them, I actually find it easier to clean then my more conventionally designed filters like the eheim.

I only clean my cannisters about every six months. If the flow is decreased by half I do a light cleaning.
