What you have is the true common pleco and the only true one that is called pleco. Us, hobbyist got lazy and decided to call everything else pleco but this one is the only one truely identified as a pleco- Hypostomus plecostomus

Cool, thanks. Most of the ones I see for sale arond here are much darker in color. I have one in another tank that is very dark that I thought was the common one.

Pterygoplichthys disjunctivus and Pterygoplichthys pardalis are also sold as commons even though they don't look the same. Basically 3 types of plecos being sold as the "same" generic pleco.
