I raised this guy from about 1/2" long.

Interestingly enough, I browsed walmart one day for a tiny heater for a sick bay tank, when I happened to notice this tiny guy in the feeder goldfish tank.

The sales clerk insisted he was a feeder goldfish, which of course I knew better, and I got him for 20 cents.

Look at him now!

He is about 11" long now, and is a centerpiece of my male show tank. Especially with his personality and seemingly excessive wisdom in comparison to his other tankmates.

I am curious to know exactly which kind of Flowerhorn he is.

Anyone able to indentify him right off?

Best 20 cents I ever spent imo.

Idk for sure wat he is but, he is the truth!!!

He has the yellow of a trimac but the rest of him looks like a red dragan!!

For real whatever he is, it's a winner!!!

Oh, and to give you an idea, I brought him last April, 2009--which would make him about 10 months old.

That'll give you an idea of how fast he has grown.

Some other Flowerhorns I bought from my local pet store around the same time at 1 1/2"-2", have only grown to about an additional 2"-3" more inches in the same amount of time.

He doesn't seem to be slowing down in his growth either. Big, bulky, and keeps his gills flared at all fish about 80% of the time. Never tries to harm any of them though.

Great character. Pictures from my pathetic camera really don't do him justice, heh.

What else do you keep him with?

He's in my "male" show tank. Although, I just recently discovered that one of my Vieja Reds was a female when she spawned off my Black Belt. :irked: There have always been a couple of other females placed in the tank, though, to help some of the tougher males to claim territories (keeps them from terrorizing or dominating the tank).

In thier mix are the following:

11" Flowerhorn (pictured above) -m
6" Flowerhorn (RD) -m
5" Flowerhorn (RD) -f
7" Parachromis friedrichsthalli (Yellowjacket) -m
10" Vieja maculicauda (Black Belt) -m
8" Vieja Synspilum (Red Head) -f
22" Colossoma macropomum (RB Pacu) -m
6" Midas/Carpintis cross (1st gen. Red Texas) -m
8" Yellow Parrot/Kamfa cross (Lemon Parrot) -m
5" Blood Parrot -f
15" Blue Catfish
8" Albino Channel Catfish
8" Albino Red Oscar
9" Tiger-Red/Black cross Oscar
10" Red Oscar
7" Tiger Longfin Oscar
7" Herichthys cyanoguttatus -m
7" Herichthys carpintis -f
5" Rocio octofasciata (Jack Dempsey) -m
5" Ancistrus sp. (Bristlenose x 2)

Also included in this setup are a couple of African Cichlids I can no longer keep with my African Clichds due to aggression:

6" Melanochromis johannii -m
4" Melanochromis auratus -m
3" Hemichromis bimaculatus -m
