Thanks Neil for noticing I was not really picking on you but just bringing up a point that if we all followed just a small bit, would let us reduce the Chaff from the valuable info that can be contributed...

yea i know what you mean. and it seems like when you say something to someone like you said to me they think your bashing on them when your really not. you know what i mean.
not really...i have several that are just not very marked (although i do think this fish will darken a bit). that is exactly why we say not to ID based on pattern.
so have i, but ive noticed that most gars in lfs look that way, and get much more coloured and marked once brought home into tanks with darker substrate, or actually any substrate at all(excluding white). i think it's the bare tanks that cause the colouration...maybe it'll stay the same but you're probably right in saying it'll darken up.
Damn things are like chameleons.. change any one or two variables and they look different.
There is little point to putting to much attention to what colour it is now it will be different in 24 to 48 hours...

i agree it will darken, BUT i dont think this fish is going to be as marked as some of them. i dont really think the color has too much to do with substrate, but more of the overall poor diet/conditions they are kept in...not to mention the stress from being moved. give it a few days to start showing its true colors.
