If the bass break through the crate then them little dats are gone and like gangster said the bass will over power them. I've keep bass and dats together on and off for years and it just comes down to a lot of over feeding so the dat eats but in turn the bass grow bigger and the dat if big enough will start attacking the bass. Only mix bass that are smaller in with your dat so they don't get eaten but it's all up to you. And for dats eating dats I've never had it happen. At one point I had a 3inch Indo in with a 17.5inch ST and didn't even look at as food.
