Is there a such thing as too many water changes?

I only do water changes to keep my nitrate in check and vacuum the tank,. for me thats 90% or fin level a week with a extra water change every 3 weeks or so. I am of the school of thought that large water changes are better than frequent small ones through out the week,
That is true. Smaller water changes take out some of the new water.

sense I change between 400 to 450g of water a week I choose to not look at the water bill and just pay the thing.

I change about the same amount of water as you. I try not to look at the price.

heres why I like a large 90% or fin level water change, lets say you have 100g tank, your nitrate rise 1ppm a day, you replace 10g or 10% of the water, your nitrate is now .90, next day you do the same thing, your nitrates are now 1.80, and so on and so forth.

you are just not replacing enof water to realy impact the nitrate creep.

and actually for day 2 my math is wrong as you now have 1.90 in the tank before the 10% water change. now only removing 10% of 1.90 ppm nitrate.

the impact of pothos is negligible. does it absorb some nitrate?, sure, but not enof to make a real impact on a normaly stocked larger tank.
