I love the thousand shrimp - but you're going to need to go up by a few orders of magnitude. In my 2000 gallon tank, 200 shrimp lasted less than a month, with 3 small (12-15cm) groupers and 2 small sharks.

wait he has to water changes on this thing?!?!?! right???? so if you had 300gallon fish tank persay, saltwater then how many times a month would you have to clean it compared to this monster>?

I would go with a sandbar shark. Much better looking than a Whitetip - IMO. Full bodied, forward dorsal fin and docile. Also known as a brown, they are very slow growing. They are a staple in most public shark displays.

What would you do for lighting on the reef.

I love sandbars, but I think they are a bit out of his league.

Oh that's the other thing I forgot to mention. Keeping a live coral reef and lots of big fish together is a pipe dream. It only works on paper, it doesn't work in real life 99% of the time.
