I just purchased a marineland light and was wondering if the night setting is something i should use? Or should the lights be off completely?

Use it if you want to... it isn't going to disturb the fish, and those lights shouldn't be powerful enough to grow algae or anything like that, so it should be fine. I don't like to waste the electricity though, personally. I only use the night time feature if I want to look at my tank briefly after the main lights go off for the evening.

The night/blue light has it purpose to use for easy skittish species in night time, you don't need to keep it up in daytime, the blue light act like moon light and keep them calm, some fishes will spook out in total darkness at night time. Also, blue light do give an effect to certain species with their coloration virture look during daytime.
