i also find it hard to believe. i have read that sometimes the caretakers would replace the dead koi with a new one without owners noticing. and rings on scales are also not very accurate. 60-80 years is probably a max for a koi.

i think chicago aquarium has an australian lungfish that they got in 1930. it is still alive and well

Your right about scale aging but If you can find an otolith record on the fish then we will know exactly what age it is.
