Water parameter? Gars are pretty indestructible from my experience. Unless it jumped it smashed it’s head.. do you have any other tank mates? Is there any voltage leaking to the water?

Water parameters are good...Not sure if he jumped because I wasn’t home...Tankmates are emperor snakehead, sliver aro, RTC , flowhorn and jaguar cichlids...Nothing could have hurt him...And no voltage leaking into water...He did have a bump on his back/ head which I’m not sure of

I thought he could have maybe choked on a stone he swallowed?

If you see in the pic you can see the bump close to his head

Sounds like everything could have caused him to “dart” and break his back. Gars aren’t indestructible like many say. Once they’re large, many fish don’t mess with them. But that doesn’t mean they “hold their own” when young. I’ve seen almost every fish you have completely kill any tankmates unless in tanks over 300 gal or more.

How big was it? Looks around 12”. But photos can be deceiving.

That bump you see is most likely a broken back caused by another fish making your gar dart into the glass/lid. IME after keeping over 20+ gator gars in my fish career most of them to 2-3’. They are solid fish. I’ve had my gars destroy snakeheads, harasses aros, nipped rtc and more. Yah I believe they are sensitive when their like 2-3” lol.

I know I’m just trying to say I’ve had them from babies and my personal experience they are pretty hardy
