I picked up some additional loach to add to my hoard of 15. The big one is 8 inch plus I would say bigger and the smaller about 6inch. Both as you can see hear have sores on there nose and a few split fins.

What is this is this just due to poor water quality in there old tank. Or is it something more sinister.

Recently I had treated my shoal with mefalix to help with some fin rot. Shall I dose with that or maybe just salt ??

Probably poor water quality. Are they in QT now? Personally I would just keep the water uber clean until they heal.

This is completely normal to happen in the first few days after purchase of large clowns. I am not sure why, but they tend to rub their noses from stress of the movement. It happened to me twice. Once about 6 years ago when I saved a 5 inch loach and once about 2 years ago when I purchased three 5-6 inch loaches. White noses within days :) The nose thing went away without any intervention on my part both times. The clowns have been fine and healthy since.

However, split fins and fin rot is a water quality issue and something completely different. The cure is lower bioload, higher filtration, more water changes.....

What I am trying to say, don't worry about the white noses, it will go away as fast as it came about if your water quality is up to scratch.

Yeah I thought so apparently the tank they came from was run down to hell. Just done a large water change, unfortunately they are in the main tank but I have de wormed them before introduction.

They already look alot better then they did yesterday and both are super chunky and healthy looking.

I found some pictures of one of my loaches 6 years ago when I got her.

See the white nose below? This actually happened in my tank within 2 days of getting the loach. Her nose was not like that. They seem to rub it out of stress. And she looked quite emaciated. I got her from a 10 gallon tank!
