Actually he did change the substrate because that looks like Eco-Earth or some kind of coco fiber. I always mix mine dry. Basically I use very little water and break it apart. If you mix according to the directions it will mold before it drys out. I mix it dry and if I need it wetter then I just add water. Hubby mixed it the first time and it took months to dry out. You can bake it in an oven until it dries and then put it back in the enclosure. Your rose does not like it wet so it will hang out it's hide or try to climb the walls.
