Moved it to the 180gal. Didn't stop to measure it but it is at least 13". The achara is 15". The last picture makes the achara look much bigger then it is but shows the pattern nicely. So far no aggression from the achara.

Sweet-looking achara. I don't recall such nice pattern at this size, usually they darken up a lot. Your light-colored substrate helps but it seems to me it may not be the only factor.

I'd not worry about achara. They are generally peaceful. I'd rather fear for it.

That Marbel cat is way too nice looking to risk having with the Goonch, I'm a fan of the Goonch because of its nasty attitude and big teeth, for looks it's very ugly in comparison to the Achara. You can probably keep both together for a while but once the Goonch is over 20" he will probably want to be alone, or get more Goonch to go with him in a nice size pond I'm waiting to get a Goonch when I can accomplish that.
Here's a picture of my Achara not as light gold colored as yours but not too dark. image.png

Fts and a few others, plus it's new fav spot. Then another achara shot aswell. The space behind this tank is going to be made into an 8'*8' inwall tank once I start finishing my basement, likely this winter. The shortnose gar with them is about 23" give or take. It was 21-22" when my 8yr old son caught it. There was a 33" silver aro in with them, pressing my pond build, but it died today. Head trauma with resulting brain damage I believe is the cause as it wasn't well since feb not eating. I have more on that in my "feeling gutted right now" post in the aro section if interested.

The plan is to have it in the 8*8 or I may build a second pond for catfish since I plan rays in the 8*8. We will see how it goes.

My last achara was 18" when it got poisoned. It was very territorial. It also had the same pattern as this one.

Sorry to hear about the aro, thought he was doing better.. The tank looks good although that gar definitely needs the upgrade

Thanks, I thought the aro was going to improve also.

The gar is almost at max size and it still has plenty of room. As it is a 100% true shortnose gar. It will go into the upgrade, or pond, witch ever is done first. Been kicking around getting a 7' round stock tank for the garage until the outdoor pond or inside tank is done.

Beautiful gar you got there. Takes a lot of work to maintain in such a small tanks. Hats off to you sir.

I just say this because they can be skittish and break their backs easily as I'm sure you know, 24" width doesn't give lots of room for when it gets scared, they also aren't very flexible fish as I'm sure you noticed by now
