Very nice hystrix. How big are they?

Nice setup, it is a rare club to be in if you can breed those bad boys. Look forward to that thread one day.
You and me both, I'll be popping bottles of champagne all night. I think if he was just a little bit bigger and stronger it would go down.

She is huge. He is big enough to mate with her. My male has mated twice with the female; he is about 7.25" and she is 11.5".

Doesn't he have to forcibly flip her over on her back? i just can't imagine that happening unless he gives her the date rape drug

No they lift up the females disk edge and then the male gets on his back under her. When she is ready to breed and you get to see it you will see how effortless it appears. Most times it happens the female will swim around with the male tagging along waiting for the right moment to slide underneath

He will get the job done once she's ready. Here is my male hystrix who is 8 inches across trying to mate with my 16 inch female pearl x marble. He has already successfully done it once before! Like it has already been said, she drags him around the tank until he spots a moment he can get underneath, then bam, job done!

Wow. Thanks for the info. Is it difficulty breeding, or giving birth, that keeps the price of hystrix up? You'd think as the smallest they'd be the easiest to reproduce on a mass scale.

Different types of rays but still my 9.5 inch male breeds with my 22+ inch female no problem. Trust me they can do it if they want to and are motivated, size don't matter
