Got it from John Gerber in Dayton, Ohio this March. Loves catfish pellets. I offer cut or whole fish but it mostly refuses.

Looks like a African Lungfish they get large, that was my reason for thinking it is young.:)

Cause you still have all of your digits. Don't those things have a mean bite?
I heard that too about their bite.

Of course I was reacting to Tlindsey's post right above mine and asking how did he know my lung was young, not asking the forum to figure out that I am a newbie, which is a given :)

Yes, I've heard about it but haven't read / looked to confirm from a trustworthy source. Maybe I am taking chances handling it like that.

How large do they get? The FishBase and Fishing World records place the max at 1 meter, 40". So mine is only 10" away.

I was just busting your chops a bit. I was looking into keeping SAL and read that they have a bite a little to considerable for my precious pancakes.

You probably have not watched til the end - it looks to me at the end when it straightens out, it shows its size the best.

I am not challenging you, I've no knowledge base. They indeed grow quick and this one may be young and will take 10-20 years to tack on those remaining 10".

I have a younger one, West African, bought Aug 2015 from snookn21 at ~7", $35. It's a piglet. Today it's about 2'. It is catching up to the bigger one frighteningly quickly. But it eats 10x more than the bigger one, pellets and fish are never refused. The bigger one refuses fish almost 90% of the time and pellets 50% of the time.
