Unfortunately, the 1" for 48" is incorrect. 1" caps out around 36" and even then you're pushing it. You'd be better off going with cell cast acrylic.

http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=312127 is one of my threads that is a good reference for buying cell cast acrylic.
1inch GLASS for 36 inches? i here people use 3/8 at 24inch so we go from 3/8 glass to 1inch in 2 foot?

Yep, 3/8" is really pushing it at 24". 1/2" is better and at 30" 1/2" is minimum. It basically doubles every 6" after 30". Your greatest pressure is at the bottom, not the top.

Besides, you cant see most of the scratches that are in contact with the water anyway, they would have to be some really deep scratches to see them and you fish are not going to do that!

the reason why i built the sump large because a few reasons. Bigger is always better dont let anyone tell you different. i also want to breed convicts down their incase i need to satisfy my need to see the stock feast on live animals. also the main reason anyway i configured it i need 2 peices of plywood so i might as well use my money to its best abilty. as for using or not using the sump it really depends on how thick glass needes to be at 4ft height and 5ft height if i can get away with not outragously thick glass and get a taller tank im going with a over the head filters no sump.
Ok, if your sump is going to double as a breeding tank, I understand.
Was just trying to let you know that you could get away with a smaller sump if it would make the wife happy.
