Unfortunately, the 1" for 48" is incorrect. 1" caps out around 36" and even then you're pushing it. You'd be better off going with cell cast acrylic.

Yep, 3/8" is really pushing it at 24". 1/2" is better and at 30" 1/2" is minimum. It basically doubles every 6" after 30". Your greatest pressure is at the bottom, not the top.

wow you learn somthing new every day. i guess im just nervous about acrylic because ive heard stories of fish scratching the acylic.

Umm, all the public aquariums use acrylic, so don't be hesitant.

Besides, you cant see most of the scratches that are in contact with the water anyway, they would have to be some really deep scratches to see them and you fish are not going to do that!

the reason why i built the sump large because a few reasons. Bigger is always better dont let anyone tell you different. i also want to breed convicts down their incase i need to satisfy my need to see the stock feast on live animals. also the main reason anyway i configured it i need 2 peices of plywood so i might as well use my money to its best abilty. as for using or not using the sump it really depends on how thick glass needes to be at 4ft height and 5ft height if i can get away with not outragously thick glass and get a taller tank im going with a over the head filters no sump.

oh i understand. her problem is she doesnt want a 5ft wide tank. ill let her think a couple of days.

very sad news this tank build is off. but me and her talked and if i give up one of my work benchs i can do a concrete build so maybe in te future look for a build thread
