Aquariums for the most part is a luxury, especially large ones.

People who think they can solve worlds poverty through equal distribution of wealth should sell theirs and give it to the poor.

wont matter ... there are MANY people out there that will find a way to squander ANY wealth they receive (like they already do )... but feeding third world on a regular basis (part of this the RURAL southern USA)is A WORTHY ENDEVOUR
This.....Africa probably tops the world in terms of poverty and I think it is due to the people in place that run the governments of some of the countries there..If any money is going to given out it would first have to be received by some govt. official or other and that is where the trickle down would stop at.Very little if any of the wealth would go to those who need it most.

Ask any of the formal communist countries population on how that grand experiment worked out for them.

As a Chinese, I laugh at certain naivety of the modern western left.

China is not a true communist system ( there hasn't really been one, only corrupted versions) . It is a republic...kind of like........oh yes...the USA...and it is increasingly becoming a plutocracy.
In history all republics fail.
"by the people for the people of the people"....is by definition a very socialist statement.

Speaking strictly for myself, this is not about robbing from the rich and giving to the poor Robin Hood fashion. And comparing all the worlds income disparities equally is not an accurate measure either. The bottom line is the ever widening gap between those who control the majority of the wealth and those who don't. When that gap is too large that is a Banana Republic. Those who hold all the wealth have all the power and can buy as much influence over your life as they want. The largely unscrupulous ways in which they acquire some much wealth is the problem and their incentive to keep you from making your way up the ladder to success. While simply taking from them to give to someone else is not the answer. There needs to be measures in place to insure that business practices are not at the expense of someone elses misfortune. And that there is a significant safety net for those that are less fortunate.

@owens: I'm not saying that money is the limiting factor in the effort to end poverty, Oxfam is. You have every right to disagree but what do you think ARE the limiting factors?
@bottles: ding, ding, ding! You win 100 billion dollars!
@lp85253: I grew up considering myself middle class but when I compare myself, my family and everyone that I know with a person or a family that has accumulated tens of billions of dollars over the course of generations, I have to realize that I am MUCH closer in economic status to a miner in South Africa, or a sweatshop worker in China than I am to a multi-billionaire. That kind of influence can buy regulators, change laws, patent technology, sway media, and wage wars. Hoarding that kind of wealth deprives not only the poorest, but you and I as well.
