You want the water side of the plywood as smooth as possible. I used bondo to fill in the screw holes then sanded the whole surface till smooth and even.

Did the first coat of fiberglass resin today, used up the whole container. Before applying the resin I went over the rough spots with some wood filler to get the flaws in the wood a little more smoothed out.
