Hey guys, I've made the change. Yesterday I jumped in and switched my tank from gravel to pool filter sand. It was 15 dollars for 50 lbs here and it's well worth it. I did a lot of looking and from everything I've read it's the way to go. It's cheap, looks great and was very easy to clean. My ph right out of the tap is 8.2 here so I'm not worried about buffering. The grain size looks perfect and it settles very fast. I might even switch my American cichlid tank over lol. I've made a couple of videos to show. I figure they are more fun than pics.

tank looks much better now!

I've heard about a couple people using this or play sand. Is there anything special you have to do to put it in your tank? I'd imagine it would get in the filter if you don't let it settle first?
you will want to wash the sand before you put it in the tank.
you can put it in a 5 gallon bucket and run a hose in the bucket until the water runs out clear (do outside)

Looks really nice, I have 100lbs of black sand that's actually a sand blasting media called black diamond, it's about $8 per 50 lb bag. Here's how it looks, the glass is still dirty and I'm still figuring my lighting out so I haven't been able to choose a color that looks good with the sand color yet and I need to add more rock still too.
