Some great shots... Reminds me of when i was living in australia... Used to have an orb spider living outside my place on a fig tree, so whenever i would find live bugs i'd throw him a treat... Just wish i had photos of him from before...

Land of the flea and home of the whopper.
I took some pictures the other day of my great northern fishing spider (Dolomedes tenebrosus). She molted two days later, and even though she hasn't eaten since I took these pictures, she is noticeably larger. This is a fascinating species and they seem to do very well in captivity under the right conditions. She can eventually get to nearly three inches in diameter, but I purposely chose a small one so that I could keep her for a few years. (Spiders don't live very long)
I've got a few other bugs, I'll take some pictures when I get the chance.

Carolina wolf spider, Hogna carolinensis

Wolf spiders are a common sight pretty much anywhere that has forested undergrowth, but the carolinensis reaches proportions that few other North American spiders do. Very interesting species to keep... considered by many to be a "poor man's tarantula". They are extremely shy and skittish, which makes them a difficult display animal, but they are constantly rearranging the architecture of their environment, building little shelters out of leaf litter and web.

My friend tried to hold this gal a few days ago, and it didn't go well. She sat in his hand for about a second before going screaming out of the hand... luckily landing back into her enclosure, because I really don't wanna play "find the giant spider before the dog/cat does".
