Playing musical fish tanks, as I continue setting up my 75 g double stack. Time for some water quality experiments.
With some white plastic habitats, and see what will grow, with straight Iowa tap water,

Had to rearrange to keep the peace. The new plastic is starting to show some color. This can not be bacteria, as it is new water, with 8ppm nitrate. That is one week old.
Most of the old algae has been picked clean.

Purple algae is only growing were it was once established. Brown diatomaceous growing mostly.
Nitrate is 15ppm.

Some red purple stuff growing at a LFS, in Iowa. Owner was not around to ask about it. I will go back probably later and see if I can get a scraping of it.

Hello, Mark!
My name is Walther Ishikawa, from Brazil. I registered the forum just to contact you. I was trying to send you a personal message, but I find out that I am not allowed until I have 5 posts...

I am part of the team of a Brazilian website about freshwater invertebrates and aquaria, "Planeta Invertebrados". We started as a PlanetInverts Portuguese mirror, but now we have a lot of original material. I can´t publish the link, but if you use Google it is the first result.

We have an article about these recently found freshwater coralline algae, I was looking for some pictures of these algae in African Cichlid tanks (there are some reports worldwide), and I found your thread.

I would like to ask you if you allow us to use some of your pictures, all the use is non-commercial, they will be credited with your name and acknowledgements, and the copyright will still be kept with you.

Thank you very much!!
Best Regards!
W.

I just forgot to ask you, how should I credit you?
Is "markstrimaran" OK? Do you prefer your real name?

New 75 gallon set up, white plastic cichlid habitat. I will be attempting to grow purple algae in this set up.
The other tank lost most of its purple algae. I have two 75 g tanks stacked,
