Royal pleco ID?

Picked this little guy up recently. Maybe 2" long, if that.

LFS said it was a standard pleco, which I tried to tell her it was a Royal of some sort. She insisted, so I paid common pleco price for it. It seems it came in with some common plecos.


Either way I've been told by local friends it resembles a "watermelon royal" but I'm not sure.

He's currently happily gnawing on some old driftwood in a 75g and eventually into a 120g

I'm no expert on plecos but the watermelon plecos I've seen were spotted, not striped. That may come with maturity and be different as juvies but not sure. I think the confusion comes from the markings on yours more resembles the stripes on a watermelon, where the watermelon pleco doesn't really resemble and watermelons I've seen.
