Hi,

Fish shop near has just got these in stock. They named them semi platinum albino senegals. Is this semi platinum? What does everyone think?

Very interesting. They may be carrying an albino gene, but don't have red eyes so aren't themselves albino. And I'm pretty sure they aren't platinum as platinums lack a melanin gene that prevents them from getting any color. Easiest way to find out is to go back in a couple days. On black sand, one of those statements won't line up.

Thanks dr.b! I've not seen these in person yet Lfs uploaded these photos. It may well be a "semi" then something in between!

Well they not platinums that's for sure. They look like just another selectively bred line of Senegal.

They seem to be leucistic, yet not platinum. see, "platinum" means super special leucistics with pure white coloration. non-platinum leucistic are leus with imperfect white (?) coloration, just like the bichirs pics you posted. platinums are very expensive, while non-plat leus are not so expensive.

I've brought one as it's not too expensive £20! Looks big in the video but it's actually max 4" and very small! Will update how again when it grows up! There was about 30+ to choose from.
