I just acquired a Fifteen Inch BGK from my LFS. They had it in store for about two months, and I made a trade for it, however I am just a little concerned for his health. He will have little spurts of energy where he swims an explores and then he will just suddenly stop and lay on the sand ( breathing somewhat heavily) before continuing. Is this normal?

To answer any questions I'm sure you will ask:
The tank parameters are fine. We did water changes (simply because they were due)
and tested with out strips. Everything was fine.

We drip acclimated the BGK before finally introducing him into the tank.
The tank is a fifty give gallon with sand substrate.
planted with both live and fake plants (Plan on heavily planting in the next few weeks just need to acquire larger plants)
His only tank mates are an African Butterfly (top dweller) and a Rainbow Shark (Though a bully will not likely pick at the BGK due to size).

Any advice would be great. I do have another BGK -though much smaller- in a 75gallon community, but he's never just stopped swimming in the middle of exploring.

gill flukes come to mind or dissolved oxygen may be low. increasing flow may help. or he may still just be stressed. hard to say.
