You could do 5 female platies or all male.

Any species of cory could work.

Ok. I'm gonna do 5 platties, betta, bumblebee horn snail, 6 corries( don't know what species ). Does this seam ok

A dwarf gourami would be alright but the betta might be a little aggressive to it but its do able.

Actually I don't think your right as 6 corries is to much but they need to be in groups of 5 at least but if I were to have corries I'd need to have a one inch corries. I'm just gonna go with a catfish on its own.

How would six corries be too much? As you said they need to at least be in a group of five, most cory species on average get 2-2 3/4 inches and nothing in your stocking besides the snail will be where they reside (bottom strata of tank) But its your tank put what you think is ok.

Most cories will be fine. Do not do emerald cories as they aren't real cories (They're relatives) and they grow to a whopping 5 or 6 inches. It's best to get a group of the same coloration, but different colored cories will still school. I recommend Juliis and pandas (Note: pandas aren't as hardy as most other cories, but still fairly hardy)
