Gymnogeophagus balzani. I’ve had this fish for several years. During that time, I’ve never been able to get it out in the open for photos. Finally broke down and put in four tinfoil barbs as dithers. Took a couple weeks, but finally tonight started cruising the tank. The female is below guarding a clutch of eggs.ECCCD3E2-F62D-4AC6-A58D-910FB2AA84AC.jpeg

Beautiful fish and great pics! Nothing like a black background to make fish look dramatic. :)

I had balzanii for a couple years, after looking for them for many years; I just lost interest in them after raising and breeding them. They were always in a tank with other cichlids and numerous Goodeid livebearers; they were never particularly shy, but they also rarely ventured above the bottom 1/3 of the tank. Just got bored with them, but nevertheless a very cool fish. :)

Believe me i can see how that could happen. Not very active in the tank. Almost gave them away a few times. Just too damn stubborn to admit I couldn't get the shot. lol

Nice shots, Mo!
Thanks brother. Took a while but worth the wait.

Man...I wish I had a fraction of your talent. That is art! There is always a level of shock and awe for me...when it comes to your captures.
