Huh, turns out that these snakes aren't even that big of a problem after all:

"Folks call from other states call and want make a fortune (in python skins), but that's just not feasible. ... There aren't pythons simply everywhere in the Everglades. It can take one to two days to find one," said Novak.
Now that's coming from a wildlife biologist with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, so it's not like it's coming from someone who isn't directly involved with trying to actually solve the problem in the Everglades.

IN YOUR HEAD
thats what i am talking about with the government just wanting full control. i have seen shows that proved the same thing, yet they always back it with the statement " there is so much land to cover and it is so thick we could be walking right past so many and not even know it." yes they are a problem, yes they need to be controlled (in that area), do they need to be banned no. i have had an obsession with pythons ever since a 10' burm tried to bite my face. it was my fault i held her just before a shed and she was nervous. i knew it, but was new enough to not respect it. she tried to bite my face and was damn close to(she had some rank breath). now i have always wanted one since then. with proper research anything can be kept. these same people that say large snakes are out say the same thing about caiman, cros, and gators. you should see the reactions i get when i tell people i want a dwarf caiman. they act like i will be feeding it children and it will kill me.

freedoms are repressed every were. this is how they start small things most people don't care about cause it only affects a small percentage. if this government keeps on the track it has been running i think they will have a revolution to deal with again. it has happened before and will happen again. people just open your eyes and see what is around you. don't just look at your feet, but look at what it is becoming. everything from the global warming bs to banned animals from trade to gas prices. we are going down hill fast and the only ones that can save us are ourselves. we need to sign everything we can, make rallies, hang banners and so many others to draw attention to this problem. we need to show them that we wont lay back and except it but we will rise against it for the benefit of ourselves and others.

i have to say that i support this 150%. some things are just not meant to kept in captivity and i think a 20+ foot snake qualifies.

now dont get me wrong i am a die hard reptile lover. i own 2 big iguanas. but i think that something does need to be done to restrict what people can buy.

i mean come on there are somethings that are not meant to be in captivity, by average people, zoo's and other institutions are a different matter. large snakes 15+ feet long, large crocs, super large monitors(croc monitors as an example).

so i see this as a possitive move. i knwo people will say that its not fair and blady blah blah. tough **** and deal with it. only takes one person to mess it up and its already happened.
anyone who supports a ban on anything but stupid people should have their citizenship revoked and be immediately escorted to the nearest border. move to some communist country if you feel the need to have a law for everything. this is the land of the FREE if you dont like it tough****

that might have sounded really harsh the last thing we need are more damn laws written by the idiots that the even dumber people vote into office.
your on a website for people that keep monsterfish we are one of the groups the average people think are nuts "who would want to keep a 4' fish"
you own exotic reptile man.
i have to add in 20 years of keeping and breeding reptiles and exotic animals the worst bites ive seen personally have been from tame green iguanas.
green iguanas are destroying all the tropical islands they have been introduced to and are far more of an ecological threat in puerto rico than the burm is in florida

Its not the fact of owning them, some people do not fully understand how large these reptiles actually get. Same with common plecos, I was down by a river with some friends here in Florida and I saw a pleco that had to have been 18+ inches. And that was what I saw above water...

Non the less, these people go and release these things out into the wild. Look at snakeheads. I think those are such cool fish. They are illegal here last time I checked.

You said "who would want to keep a 4' fish"

People who know what they are doing have fish long enough to see them get that big.

Theres a huge difference between a fish owner, and a fish enthusiast. Which is what I believe 90% of the people here fall under that category.

Why? Because they know the proper housing requirements of their extremely large fish. Are you going to put a alligator gar in a 55G for its whole life? I think not.

Same thing goes with these snakes. Are you going to keep a burm or retic in a 20 long? Maybe 85% of people, properly house these snakes. (Ball parking guess, said being I know no one who owns any of those snakes.)

I personally support the ban. Until things are brought under control here, the import should be stopped. That or make it very hard to get these kinds of snakes.

I already believe here you need a "reptile of concern" license in order to own any snake that gets over 10 feet. Don't quote me, its been quite some time...

In the caiman den
Again, this ban does nothing but kill jobs. It will not get rid of the snakes in the glades. It WILL with out a doubt destroy many many jobs.

So much ignorance from so many. Its appalling.

This was meant to be read as that's what most people say when they see my catfish and hear how big they get.
Bans of any type do nothing to solve any problem! all bans do is make criminals out of good hard working americans !! Stupid people will always be stupid until they are hit in the pocketbook. Enforce the laws already in place. first it's these snakes next any large lizard. Then the monster fish we all keep.
we do not Need ANY MORE LAWS!
The government should have no say in anyones private collection of any species or thing. Laws already exist should that collection become a threat to the health or welfare of the community. if those laws were enforced there is no need for any further encroachment on americans liberties.
