Ultima filtes plumbed to several tanks

I am working out the plans for my next fish room. I want to run one ultima on several tanks. I have many tanks on a shared sump which is easy to do. With ultimas what is best way to set it up so you get the appropriate flow in and out of each tanks so you don't flood one or drain the other etc

I don't have experience with plumbing multiple tanks together but my instinct is to have the return split to each tank and a valve for each tank which would somewhat balance the flow. Then have each tank drain to a combined pipe that connects to the ultima's inlet. This way, a tank would never be drained since at worst it just wouldn't be getting any water from your filter.
