Hey everyone, i'm new to this site but i've heard lots about it.
I'd like to start by asking if anyone knows any easier ways to distinguish a spotted gar vs a florida gar, or what else i've been hearing are spotted florida gars.
I just picked one up at about a foot, and its definitly spotted and has a black line across his eye, i haven't noticed how many rows of teeth he's got yet on the upper jaw.

Does anyone know how i could tell?
ps, i've seen lots on the internet about the spacing between the front edge of his eye and the rear edge of the gill covering being less than 2\3 the snout length.. but... thats sorta hard to guess... unless i pull him onto the table and mesure...

well thanks for anyone who thinks they may be able to help me, hope to hear from yous.

unless you know locality, you can safely assume it's a florida gar
