Everyone is growing great and looking great too. They all look so different from when I first got them I can't believe it.
First my silver dollars. Not a CA cichlid but they look nice. They are greedy mofos that have no problem steeling food out of my cichlids mouth's. They seem to be stuck at about 3". I hate how skittish they are but they are voracious eaters and can definatly take a hit. Despite being harassed by the cichlids they are doing well.
Next my pair of midas. Having spawning trouble but hopefully not for long. They just came off a failed spawn so male is back to harassing the female. She should be getting back in the mood by the end of the week. The male is a brute and is getting to the size to where I have to be cautious about decorating the tank because he has nabbed me twice now. The female has nabbed me once. Fun fish. I love putting the algae scrubber in the tank and watching them attack it.
Male when I first got him in April at 4"
And now at the beginning of August at about 6/6.5" and THICK.
Female in April at a about 3.5"
And now at about 5/5.5"
And last my Cubans. These guys have come a LONG way from the barely recognizable little fry to the fish they are now. They still have a lot of growing to do but they look so different from when I first got them. They have paired up and the female is doing a lot of showing off for the male. The male no longer sees her as a threat and so they are getting a long well. They are almost always together. I don't think they will spawn with those big midas cruising the tank unless I invest in some smaller caves. But I really want them to grow out first. Very gutsy fish with a lot of attitude and seem completely un-intimidated by the larger midas. They are doing some damage on my silver dollars. Nasty fish. These guys are voracious feeders and usually out compete my midas for food who for some reason don't like to eat from the surface that much.
Female back in febuary when I first got her. She was probably 1/2".
And now at about 3" and getting thick. She has a lot of blue on her that I don't think the camera shows.
Male cuban back in febuary. He is actually the smaller one in the first picture. He was no more than 1".
And now at about 4/4.5" and thick.
The pair
Still undecided about which pair to keep. Both cichlid species exibit great personality and color. The cuban pair gets along very well. The midas pair does get along EXCEPT the first few days after they finish spawning.
Anyway I hope you enjoy.
