my aussie does not attack the tank mates, so i guess i will give the silver a go. picking up that bad boy tomorrow, and selling the wolf and maganese.

u need a bigger tank than a 180, or plenty of fights will be in your future. u should never house more than 1 aro in a tank in my opnion. The pikes are cool. I'd say dump the wolf fish and maybe think about a 250 gallon tank...

180 for a jar alone, or a gar without the jar, cichlids, or wolf, or the cichlids and lose the jar and gar...definitely not nearly big enough for a silver though. How big is the jar? 10"-12" is when they're supposed to go crazy and become killers...

Wow...I would recommend getting rid of everything. If you are going to keep the jar look into getting a tank with at least a 72x30" footprint. Chances are the silver a gar would fight, not to mention you'd need an even larger tank to properly house the two of them.

How big is the aro? If less then 12" it is normal for them to be peaceful, it after that size Aussies become killers.

IMO keep the Jar, grow him up a bit then upgrade to your 180 then decide to add tank mates. Your Jar should be ok in the 180 for at least a few years then upgrade to something bigger when the time comes. Also alot of ppl on these forums have large aros in a 180 gallon and alot of ppl started them in small tanks like you so there's a bit of hypocrits here about a 180gallon not being big enough...

Kinda silly for him to buy a 180 which he doesn't have yet, when he could just go with a 225g(72x30x24") which is 6" wider and would do the jar for life.
