So I got a shovel nose cat today from a lfs but this guy looked different then all of the rest. So since it was different, I snagged it lol what kind is it?

Eh,not sure which species it is but it looks like it needs a little plastic surgery. It's bashed it's snout into the glass one time too many.

Injuries like this are very rare in TSN if they happen at all.

My take is this is a mutant. The deformity is commonly seen and is referred to as a "duck-bill" and some other names. It varies in severity and this is on the high end.

Vast majority of TSN we appear to get in the ornamental trade appears to be the culls from the farming industry. They weed out underperformers like this mutant.

It is and I guess will be pretty hard to tell the species even after it reaches some size, like 2', which usually helps to ID "normal" TSN.

This could be the new rage in some countries.....we already have shortbody fish and now we shortface.
