Yeah, except the OP didn't want 3 mm as it gets in his gravel. :)
I don't have this problem, so I feed 3 mm in my tanks as well.

Thanks for all the input - I found a cheap source that I will share for the 3MM There A+ sinking (2,000gm for 48.99) and 4.5MM Float XL (1,600gm for 41.99). I got it from 1800PetSupplies.com - free shipping and no taxes either. It was delivered fine and the food was fresh - one expires Dec, 2019 and the other Jan, 2021. My only concern was that Thera A+ was listed at 2,270gm, which I thought might not be correct - it was only 2,000gm.

Oh yeah, they did not have the 6MM sinking - I couldn't find that anywhere that was remotely this good a deal per gm - so still looking for a cheap source of that, if anyone sees it.

Since large fish can eat small pellets but small fish can't eat large pellets, I prefer to feed my fish with smaller pellets than large ones. There is no benefit but risk of intestinal obstruction feeding over sized pellets, considering that pellets will double in size fully soaked. The minimum pellets I use are 1 mm to prevent getting into filter intake, and the largest ones I use are 3 mm even though my big fish can take much larger pellets. Since my substrate gravel size is about 2 mm, settling pellets appear to be indistinguishable from the substrate from human eye perspective, but the fish have better sense and can pick them up one by one with no problem. Unless you use pebble size gravel, I can't see how 3 mm pellets can get in between gravel.
