I have another thread going and this subject came up. I have 3 black ray pups in a 125 gallon. I do 30% water changes every 3-4 days. my water parameters are; ph 7.8, Am 0, Ni 0, Na 20, Temp 78.8. I have 3 huge air bubble disks going in the tank and have a 30 gallon wet/dry. alot of oxygenated water. I also have a 25 watt U.V. sterilizer running. there are only 9 tetras and 4 plecos in the tank with the rays. the rays are 6+ inches each. they have been in the tank for almost 2 months now and are still extremely skittish. their bellies are pinkish towards the very middle. I see no cuts, wounds or infections. They were never on any substrate before i bought them but in this tank i have Peace river gravel. about 2.5 inches deep of it. this tank is very mature and stable. Could it be they have something wrong with them? Why would they have pink bellies and what can i do about it? I will try to get pictures when the lights go out (sinse thats the only real time they actively swim around) They hide almost all day.

Unless there bellies look extremely red I wouldn't worry to much at this point. ive noticed that most "young" stingrays usually have a slight pink tone to the underside. Maybe try posting a pic of your rays and substrate? Like I said before tho doesn't sound like its anything to panic over. Worse case scenario I'd say the gravel may have to go.

my pups have pink belly's almost all the time with no substrate and when there just fed there belly's go even more red. I wouldn't worry about it
80F, 0 nitrite, 5 nitrate, ph 6.8, 0 nitrite. I use a drip system so my water is always the same

Looks totally normal to me. My 7" marble looks exactly like that slightly pink.

The pink is normal. What are you feeding?

they will only eat live black worms, but i cut up one leaf worm and add 2-3 canivorous pellets to the blackworms first in a cup and let them soak together. I want them to get familiar with other foods and smells even if they wont touch it right now.

Have you tried chopping up Canadian earthworms? Stingrays usually cannot resist an earthworm! You can usually buy them at any walmart.
