Caught These In Lake

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Heh cool! That place looks familiar altimaser. Did you happen to catch them near the Miccosukee golf coarse? I once caught a two foot female albino catfish there. She was beautiful! I didn't have any where to put her so I threw her back in the lake. There also used to be a lot of huge monster sized kois there. Never caught one though.

No, I caught them in a lake that my neighborhood wraps around. It's a small drainage lake that connects to all the millions of canals we have in South Florida. Thats how these fish can get from lake to lake, through all the canals.

I need some anti-burn cream from reading this. Too much flame, gotta stay outa the kitchen.

So do you recommend what he did?

Side note: I think this has NOT gotten out of hand one bit. A debate will always have 2 sides. Siding with the law is easy enough for me.

Flames? That was a terrible attempt at starting more ruckus. Not from me. I said my part, and me and altimaser are friends more now than we were before. I'd say this thread was good for this site and all its members.........

Now Quote the mods please........LOL yeah right! Listen, Laws are laws. Bash? Wow, when you are an adult and go back and read this, you will laugh at your self.....

laws laws laws. do you work for the govt or something? who cares yo, this is a freakin fish forum. not some law and investigation site. laws are always meant to be broken anyways. i bet you break one at least once a week. speeding, not stopping to a complete full stop on a stop sign, tail-gating, etc.

Couldn't agree more.

Great catch, altimaser! However, you could have frozen them, or simply stomped their heads.

Please don't qoute me out of context...

IMO the invasives have now become the natives. No animal should be killed because it is in the wrong area. If he were to kill it and eat it that would have a purpose. Not senseless killing. You should treat them like native fish now. Yeah maybe he should not have brought them home but what is done is done. He now knows and it is his choice what he will do in the future. No sense in keeping on his case about it.

And what will have become of our natives?

Man put them(exotics) here (location) not God.

*bows down* Thank you!

Beautiful fish, lucky you, all I can catch are largemouth bass and bluegill...maybe a crappie if im lucky.

Lucky you, we used to have LMB and bluegill too but people like Pirwhana thought we shouldn't.

Pirwhana, if we took all the wild and stray dogs and cats to your area and released them and they depleted all the wonderful animals you have there would you be just as happy to look out you window?

You could always make a photo box out of acrylic if you really like to photograph your catches. It is just a fish sized box made from acrylic. There are pretty good instructions in Herbert Axelrods' Guide to Freshwater Fishes. The box will keep the fish still and you can photograph in sunlight. IMO, as long as the tank was clean, you just used a large photo box. I guess if you euthanized these fish, you would have to euthanize a lot of the wild fish photographed for books or magazines.

How often are these (see above) exotic fish that are damaging the native species habitat? Other than here were everyone is anonymous it doesn't happen, because in the real world people know they are doing wrong and that there are repercussions (some just think they won't get caught).

altimaser, I've said my piece with you and I know where your coming from, that's how I ended up with 20,000g of water to take care of, let alone the fish :screwy:.

This looks like a retention pond... one of about a million in Florida. And those ecosystems are far from pure. Rereleasing into a river or lake ochechobee is a little different than a man-made pond. All waterways are not created equal.

I just mean that they are there now and are becoming native to the area. The natives are dying but not much we can do about it now that the exotics are now established species. I agree that it should not have happened but what can really be done other than to not dump exotics and treat the ones that are there now with respect. Not to mention that the rainforest where the exotics are from is getting destroyed and they may becoming extinct in the future and we should be happy that they are thriving.

Holy Sh*t Altimaser. I bet you had no idea how much crap you would start just wanting to show your catch of the day. hahahahaha.
