This weekend we bought another baby Oscar. He is about 3 inches. When I went in to the lfs I was a bit hesitant b/c many fish looked like they have ich, even though the store has always in the past been very good quality.

We fell in love with on of the O's and we bought it.. put it in the hospital tank and put ich treatment in.. He isnt doing well at all. At first.. he sat on the bottom and sulked, which is normal for O's.

Well Its been 3 days and hes still sulking and hiding behind the heater. I dont have any pics yet since I am at work ... I can post some tonight - If hes still alive.

I dont have much luck with O's it seems. A few months ago i had one die on me for no apparent reason. All my tanks have fine readings.. maybe when I bought him he was too far gone already? Would melafix work on something like that?

Hes a Tiger O and when I turn on the light he turns almost White!!! And I liked him b/c he was sooo black and orange not grey.

Oh I hope I dont lose this little guy..... Promise to update tonight.

What's your temp at?

When I have had any ich problems. I have raised the temp up to 85 and added aqaurium salt. It has worked for me so far.

I think its around 82 I will have to double check.. He doest have any more visible ich on him.. hes just moping and looks so sad :(

Buyin Fish with disease is asking for trouble.. None of the lfs here will even sell you a fish with Ick, or any noticeable disease.. OUrs have them in Quarantine.

My suggestion is stick it out. If he dies, not to be mean but if you buy fish with diseases your gonna keep having hard luck. Better to just wait and not have to be sad about a fish i got attached to and then decided I wanted to watch it die..

Did you add salt?

Well he's just sitting there on the bottom still... Breathing heavy.. I chased him around for a bit with the net.. he ran but not willingly like a normal fish would.. There are some minnows in the tank and he seems to be eating them... they have mysteriously vanished. Last night when I fed the flakes he seemed to take some if I recall.... So I dont know..

I am downloading the pics now...

Ok here are the pics.. I just noticed his eyes look like they are gonna pop out of his head!! And the temp is 82... And I have no salt I gave it to my friend when he took my female Texas whod been beaten up... I'll have to pick up some more. Does the fact that I got him Sunday make a difference? Could he still be sulking? Not likely right?

if its popeye, its a internal disease, try pimafix, quarantine it,
maintain good water parameters n set heater to 32c
Waterchanges 25% every 3days n add pimafix, due to
internal disease , its about a week to maybe a month
to cure popeye, remember to remove your AC.

Oscar's eyes are naturally bulgy, but keep an eye on it anyway just to be sure it's not pop-eye. It is also common for the Oscar to turn white looking, because that is what they do when they are scared. Was he the only one in the tank at your lfs or was he in a group?
If he was by himself, his sulking could possibly be because change of environment. If he was with a group it's because he is now by himself. If he is still sulking you can go and get another one to cheer him up/ keep him company. He is sure to swim around/follow the other one around. The one I have use to do the same thing until I stuck another one in there with him. His coloring went back to black and red and he wasn't sulking anymore. Hope this helps! GL

Well its Thursday and hes still alive.. I've only been treating with ich treatment and now theres only 5 out of 20 minnows and thats the only thing in my quarantine tank so he is eating. Hes still sitting at the bottom I didnt think hed be sulking for this long. There were other O's in the tank with him when I bought him... I'm gonna get that Pimafix tonight and try it out.. The ich is gone.. I hope he survives!!

Oh yeah and I cant get another O b/c I just dont have the room and I am trying to get my collection complete.. I dont want to have to try and find a home for any of them later!!
