Well I came home today, looked at my lovelt big hex and what am I to see? No clown loaches!!! 20 minutes late came to look again and I thought to myself :WTF: So i decided to get my pole with ajustable wire on the end and got the hollow mangrove root out. I thought to myself where else could it go?? so I got a tourch and what do I see? BOTH yes BOTH of the restarded loaches squirming around inside, put the root straight back in tipped it upside down still nothing came out, so i shook it on very pale but still alive loach stormed to the botome not looking happy. I shook it some more nothing came out the loach was still in it took a lot of physical effort to get the damn thing out, I had to bang my hand on it like trying to get ketchup out of a bottle of heinz. Luckily he was still alive.  pale but alive... just. I'm keeping an eye on him now.

I guess my question is: why arent they allowed to sleep in the root? They would have come back out on their own.

They were properly stuck though if they swan in they can't get out it is too narrow for a fish that size. they can barely fit the opening never mind get out.

i wouldnt call the fish retarded....maybe its the owner? LOL j.k

i used to think my loaches kept getting stuck, but they dont really. id wait for at least a day to check if they are getting stuck or not, cause otherwise, they are just hiding for a reason

you are probably right lol! we stuffed the root full of plants no one is going back down there. anyways if it took physical force to get it out it must have been stuck and i saw it anywy its head ways half stuck in a tiny 1" gap.
and oddball the entire thing was hollow.

In 1 of my tanks I've got a large Red cap oranda he got his whole body stuck in a one entrance ornament once so all you could see was the red cap, so I tried the ketchup bottle routine, effing would'nt budge had to force my finger in and lever him out. He lost quite a few scales in the process. So no concord your not the the only one with spam fish.

The hollow root thing brings back memories of one of my stupid fish. I converted my swimming pool into a fish pond four years ago. one of the return nozzles was missing and a fish swam into the pipe. It was too big to turn around and probably too big to back up (couldn't get its pectoral fins out far enough). It kept swimming forward into the dark until it saw light from another return jet. Only there, the nozzle was installed and the fish could not get out. I only used the pump and filter for clean up, and the next time I did my cleaning chores, that jet was plugged. I didn't think about it until the next cleaning. That time it had foam coming out of it. I removed the nozzle and out came a large fish skeleton...:(
