Other things I've learned along the way...

~No matter how nice they look, do NOT buy fish from Walmart.
~Fish do much better if you don't remodel their homes every 5 days
~When you are wondering if your half grown guppies are "big enough" to make it in the adult tank, do not experiment with the most promising, colorful fry
~Just because a guppy female is fat does not mean she's pregnant. If you spend time to net her and lock her up in a nursery, you might just find she has to poop.
~Buying "dying" fish from petstores in an attempt to save them is 90% fruitless, but the other 10% of the time it's quite rewarding.
~Your tank will never be "big enough"
~You will never have enough tanks
~As soon as you think you know something about the fish you have, they prove you wrong
~Bloodworms are a godsend
~Yes, you DO need the $30.00 fish - it'll compliment the others so it's necessary
~Avoid Hexamita like the plague **frowns and remembers Armaggedon, the time when she lost every single fish in three days**
~Don't overfeed beefheart - it's gross
~Be very careful when vacuum cleaning the gravel in a guppy fry tank
~And again, I repeat the first one. NEVER BUY FISH FROM WALMART.

wow never would of thoght, sucky they got eaten

I went to the store today and talked to the owner - he's ordering me a pair for delivery next Friday :)

(And I'm gonna remember to tape up the holes in the tank lid this time lol)

just make sure that the part of the tape that shows isnt sticky bc they will climb up there and get stuck. then its gonna be a nasty job pealing them off, trust me i know

Great advice!

I have also lost those darn african clawed water frogs....They excaped, and I could not find them....EVER....Then I moved, and lo and behold, there it was, all dried up and perfectly preserved.....It was my mummy frog!

Jen ;)

LOL!

I'm all too familiar with dried up mummy frogs and newts! Those suckers seem to get out of anything! I once found an escaped newt just hanging out in my shower, but better than him being all dried up and stuck to the carpet!

I had crabs in my fish tank not knowing that they should not be totally submerged, the pet store said thats fine to have them in with my community fish and before you knew it, they had climbed out of the tank on the airline hose and died, I found a couple of them clear in my sons room all dried up, I am surprised that the cat or dog didnt get it before it died. Now I know better than to have them fully submerged in water.
:duh:

I live right by a pond and woods and a big field and when I was younger I used to catch salamanders, frogs, newts all the time and put them in my 10g tank and they would ALWAYS get out and I would always hear from my parents screaming in the morning because there was a frog hopping around the living room. Whoops.;)
