My gachua female is beat up from the male. Now has fungus and swelled up gills.
I tried some melafix but that made the male very agro and he thrashed her again.

I tried maracyn two and it seems my plants sucked it all up. Now I'm going to set up
my 30g. hospital tank and try some maracyn plus.

She is in bad shape, I'm doing water changes every 3 days.

Whats the best med to get rid of this fungus, popeye, fin rot and swelled gills?

thanks, Jay

you should try seperate them for a bit until she heals. then i would take the male out of the tank, rearrange everything then put them back in. Btw how big are they?

That sounds bad I agree with sqratch get it into a different tank to recover. Are you sure it is the female that is getting beaten? The female is usually the dominant fish in the smaller channa species. You may have two males, or it is the male that is hurt. Good luck

I would have to disagree with the female being dominant. I paired off 3 sets of gachua and
some others, the male was dominant. IME.

Yes I know its the female, the pair has a tank to themselves.

I put a divider in, after she gets healed up its back to breeding time.

back to my question

I have maracyn plus but is their anything else?

thanks J

i like melafix. but you said you tried using it already. Do you have a seperate tank you could put the sheila in for awhile? I would highly recommend taking all ur decor out and re arrange everything when you reintroduce the female back in. I had aggression problems with my channa's and this helped them reestablish their territory.

Sorry mate. There's that many clueless channa keepers about it's difficult to know what advice to offer sometimes. I have seen Baloo mention a very good treatment for these sort of injuries but I can't remember the name. Maybe pm him? About what you say about your fish....that is very interesting. In my dwarf channa the female is consistently the dominant fish...but I gues it depends on the individual...god they're cool animals :D

get the plants out ....use maracyn and get a divider...you dont want to break that breeding bond by separating the female. IMO

good luck

melafix doesn't really cure anything, it only speeds up the healing process. make sure the water is clean and don't overfeed your female. i find using a UV sterilizer works wonders on the speed of the healing as well!

This stuff works fast it's tetracycline tablets. Fish looks a lot better and eating.
She should be healed up soon.
