NYC
GREETINGS,
I LIVE IN NYC. I AM WONDERING WHAT TYPE OF FISH TANK TO GO WITH. SALTWATER OR PLAIN WATER. I WORK AT HOME AND NEED SOMETHING TO SOOTH MY MIND AND CREAT A GREAT CONVERSATION PIECE. ALSO I LIVE IN A 2 BEDROOM APT. AIR COND IN WALL AND DRY HEAT.

GIVE ME SOME ADVICE.

THANKS

hmmm well how big d'ya want it? to start I recomend a 20g cycle for a week and stock with livebearers (guppies n stuff) tetras, cory cats and ottos and if you want something a little interesting a vampire shrimp but make sure a good current is in the water a good team is clown loach + the shrimp = secondary filter they are great :)

OK
FRESH WATER, salt is a pain in the snakehead
start small, but not too small 30 GALLONS is good
as for fish id go with AFRICAN CICHLIDS, colorful and lots of movement. relatively cheap.
as for a filter, get a CANISTER. hard to screw up with one of them. get one rated for 40 or 50 gallons, its hard to over filter a tank. more advice to come for sure. welcome to MFK!!!!!!!!!!!

If you're just starting out then I suggest going freshwater. Mainly because maintaining freshwater is a little bit easier and also less expensive compared to saltwater. You can do a planted tank with nice colorful schooling fish which would be both relaxing to watch and also make for a great conversation.

hell yeah bro!!!

WELCOME TO MFK BUT WHY ARE YOU YELLING?

Welcome to ]V[onster fish keeping. I would suggest freshwater as they are a bit easier to keep and the fish generally don't cost as much. Depending on what you want real monsters or just a show piece their are a zillion types of fish that would fit. If you want monsters a 55gal tank with a cpl of juvie jack dempsey's or other hardy fish plus some dithers would be pretty easy as long as you are willing to upgrage in about 1 yr. Get a book or surf the net to read up on different types of fish b4 you decide. then come in here and the great minds of MFK will keep you on the right track.
