What do you think? Is it doable for one GT in a 40 gal tank? If not how about a dmpsey. No convict suggestions necessary as I already have 3 breeding pair in a 55.

I think that is a tight for a full grown adult, but would also depend on the footprint. The 40 Breeder has more surface area then a 55..... A single GT would be ok up until about 7-8" in there....

you could do a small GT in a 40gal for a short time. Sounds like your 55 is WAY overstocked. How do you keep the aggresion down with 3 breeding pair in a 55?

Jacks grow more slowly imo.. but yes it depends on the footprint and what else you want to put in with it.....

You know, believe it or not, aggression really isn't a problem with my Cons. Yes they flair at each other, but no damage done. Even weirder is that they all have made their breeding ground on the same end of the tank. I started with just a male and a female. The other two pair are their brood, so really they are in breeding. But man, talk about some beautiful fish when they get "in the mood".

it can be done. just keep it alone or move it out when space becomes an issue. why not do convicts and/or firemouths instead?

AWesome!! Good for you.:woot:

I have no desire to add anything else to the tank. Just the one fish. this tank is 36x20x12

How large are your green terrors now? I initially kept my breeding pair in a 29 gal.

They didnt keep the first spawn past eggs. I then moved them into a 125 gal with malawi cichlids and currently they are raising a brood in a 180 gal show tank. Madagascar, venustus and some juvi azureus.

The male is about 6inches while the female is 3-4 inches.
