Does anyone on this board have wild caught silver aros that DO have drop eyes?

I've been searching for a wild one for some time and will finally bring one home in few days. I'm really hoping that it will be free of eye problems.

I think you would have the same problem.

Somebody on here, I forgot who has wild ones and they don't have drop eye and are of a large size. I believe he also has farm raised ones and those one do.

Actually all silver arowanas here in the states are "wild caught"...... even the one coming from asia...... which are sent there at a very small size to be "grown out"...... Captive breeding has been producing minimal numbers in the past few years but still not enough to compete with the "wild" ones coming out of SA.......

perhaps these "captive bred" silvers will be less prone to eye drop.......

we are now thinking that inbreeding causes droopeye so wilds might not get it. or a cb silver that that just wasnt inbreed.

Check it out. A fresh perspective that encourages me to be conscientious consumer in this ornamental fish hobby.

I'm sorry but that article is FOS....... based mostly on hearsay rather than true facts......

Japan is not the largest market...... they do not need to raised by parents.....( though benificial for protection)..... parents not slaughtered....... and i never seen a SA go for
10K....... except for maybe a albino or platinum...... regardless they will really be crying down in brazil when asia starts producing them in large numbers....... imagine the revenue they will lose....... put it this way........ i know a person who alone exports over 1.7 million baby silvers to asia every year........ less than 5% comes back to the states..... that is money that will stay in asia....... over 70% of all ornamental fish coming from asia are "farm raised" F1,0000 generations....... sure they dye and tatoo a few fish..... but on a "enviormental" standpoint......... pros out weigh the cons.......

sorry for the rambling...... just had to say my .02

the biggest market for aquarium fish is actually in the states.

I raised a silver arowana to 8" with no droop eye, and based on the updates I'm getting from the current owner, it's still in perfect condition. :) it's got to be well over 15" now.
