i was just wondering if the rest of u guys had a problem with your fahaka killing your pleco...if so..how do u maintain the algae? thnx in advanced

i have never seen a fahaka with tankmates unless you got a real wimpy fahaka. they usually will kill anything in the same tank that is moving.
You can get away with plenty of tankmates they just need to be selected carefully. For example your long nose gar would be a sitting duck in my opinion. I kept mine succesfully with about ten zebra danios and three or four 1-2" african cichlids. As long as they are kept well fed there should not be a problem. The pleco however I would advise against. I had a 3-4" royal pleco in with my fahaka for about five or six months with zero problems. One day at feeding time I threw in a whole shrimp the pleco landed on it and was munching away. THe fahaka came over and bit him very severely in the face taking off about 1/5 of his entire face. It turned out to be a fatal bite. Hope my story helps your decision. The crucial thing about trial and error with a puffer especially fahaka or Mbu is you won't usually get the signs of fin nips and have time to move the fish. You will come home to a fish with a chunk takin out of him. Good luck
If you wan't to keep down the algae just keep the lights dim. I can't have a pleco with my rays so I just have one light and it isn't very bright. I haven't had any algae problems at all. If you want bright lights you will just have to clean the algae manually.
I'd say try it with a common pleco and if it gets eaten you're not out too much $$.

bristlenose are the best for algae clearence, and the majority of plecs are crap for algae cleaning. just use an algae scraper, dim the lights a little. cause of their beaks, they'll be able to take chunks even out of the most heavily armoured pleco, and it most probably will
