Okay; so I have been planning a DIY venture between myself & a buddy who works at an acrylic fabrication shop.

This is a footprint & approximate measures of the tank. This will be just under 1,100 gals

I hope that someone might have some views on the proposed filtration locations as well as powerhead locations for the elimination of dead spots.

Plans are to also have a waterfall return in the back (green) corner.

My thought is to have overflows in the (red) corners with wet/dry underneath, with the plumbing through the bottom so nothing is visible. The overflows will be sealed so the overflow area can be empty, while the tank is full, for maintenance & to keep the floor from ending up with 1000 plus gal on it incase of filter system failure.

I intend to have a continuous drip water change hidden ithwhe waterfall return. I am not yet sure of the rate, I will need to tweak this as the tank grows & bioload is determined.

One side will be against a wall & the other will create a mock hall in the room, everyone entering will need to pass by the tanks backside to enter the room.

This project will not even start until I get a new house & build or retrofit a room for it, perhaps a garage since there is NO way it will fit through an entry door.

I currently have no idea what fish will be in this tank, but when it becomes a reality, there will be a new thread for that.

I'm a little dislexic, so i may not entirely know what you said,
but here's an idea of powerhead placement for less dead spots.

Huked on fonicks wurked fer me!

and hey, it would be just enough room for an Arapima and and Arowana

4' high and only 2' wide? id want more footprint and less height but thats just me, 4' high would put alot of pressure on the sides dont ya think?

Actually I had thought of that & I was thinking 30 inches but I am still not sure. I dont want to waste too much material either.

I originaly got inspired by a 20 foot long by 20 inch wide by 4 foot high tank.

I think 4 foot will work, but I need to do some math & use the right thickness.

i agree
are you saying you want 2 wet/dry setups with 2 sumps i have heard this can be a problem
especially with the volume you will have
i would go with one large sump and a flow through design input at one end output at the other
or large input in the middle and 2 outputs at either end

what pump are you thinking about something like a Mag Drive 36 3600gph
sump is going to need to be pretty big too

only going 2' wide this is going to greatly reduce the size of the fish you will be able to house. I would go at least 3' wide and 30" tall at the most. 4' tall will make tank access and maintainence a pain in the ass. cool design though. Also I would do one large wet/dry and use powerheads to direct the water around the tank. Just my opinion though.

I think shorter and wider is a better idea. I cant wait to see the finished product! Keep us updated!!

Ok, a single sump it will be, and a big *** pump. No wonder I started asking questions so early in the project.

I was thinking of smaller monsters so the 2 foot seemed good, but as I think more clearly, what if I want to go with some bigger.

I guess its back to the drawing board to figure out the best use of material. The 4 & 2 foot fit the raw material quite well. I have to do more layouts & see how I can config a 30 x 36 incher.

On the topic of the sump. Do you (any, all or none) think I can do the dual inlets to the sump from the ends (red) (the inspiration tank has this). I realy want to setup the waterfall in the middle (green) even it it is just a portion of the return water.

are you going to build on site or move it completed

The cutting & dry fitting will be done in the shop; assembly will be in-place. This baby will be a bear to move all put together.

I will put up some updated images of the new specs once the design is done.

I still feel the 4ft high will work, like I said I was inspired by a crystal clear clean sided 4ft high by 20inch wide 20 foot long tank.
