ashow male is good but you'll need proof of what shows he's won. show fish come with papers just like dogs. don't just go on the guys words not that he's lieing but he just may be willing to see how guilable you are seeing as though (no harm intended) you don't seem to know to much about fish at least price wise. Maybe he just doesn't want to part with the fish. Is there anyone you know that just go to the store & inquire about the fish without letting on they know to see if he gives them the same price. a sow fish has papers I'll reiterate seeeee theee paappers first before you put any money on this fish. Red arowanas, tigrinus catfish, show koi cost upwards of 300 not cichlids unless you are dealing with an asian market(no harm to anyone of asian decent) which still have papers for the fish. Alpha male is usually a stud (show) male, grade a means just loks good may or may not have been in shows.

Everybody thank's for all the advise ( Croc 2-3 you were a great help ):) I guess it's really weird and I really want that blackbelt bad. It's like everytime I go to the fish store he's saying TAKE ME HOME!!!!! :D

Yeah, even $500 is kinda crazy if ya ask me. I bought mine for $4.95 about 4 years ago. He's now at 12" long, approx 7" high, and at least 2" wide. He's alone, except for a
9"common pleco in a custom 150 gallon I made. I'll attempt to post some pics:

Some of these are from last year, some are very recent....should be easy to see the difference. He's really gotten a much more mature look this year, and is getting a slight nuchal hump (hump on head).
