Jiffy Lube rips customers off

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
:iagree: :iagree: :iagree: WHOLE HEARTEDLY!

When I go to Jiffy Lube I only get an oil change and I usually wait near thr bay and watch them drain the oil, change the filter and fill my car with new oil.

What's funny is this was all around the area wher I live...LOL

This could however work to your benefit. Next time the dude tells you/advise you that all these extra things are needed just tell him your paying by cash so what's up with the hook up and give him that look....LOL....for e.g if the price calls for a $100.00 work, slip him $40.00 cash....works for me. I'll get everything they have to offer and just slip the dude the funds on the side. Just remember to stand close where you can watch an monitor what they are doing. So they know you are watching. Don't be stupid and wait in the waiting room. These guys are more than willing to pocket the money. Crooks, yes. So make it work for you....hahaha....

I was ripped off by a tire place this past fall. Matter of fact, it seems like if you are a girl they try to get you bad, because they think you are an easy mark. The guy that ripped me off feed me some BS about my van and I asked him if he was serious and if he thought I really belived his s**t. I then got my DH on the phone and told him exactly what the tire guy told me, suddenly the tire guy was saying I misunderstood him, blah blah. Whatever. I told DH he brings the van in for any work from now on.

that sux. yah alot of auto places do that. Esp. if they think you dont know anything about cars. A firestone down here had my car on a lift and was realigning(sp -sorry) my car (I have free alignment there) and I was just watching then the guy comes up to me and goes "oh your roters (sp?) are warped... I just look at him I was like.. "uhm no they are not they are fine" then he goes "I suggest you get new ones its bad to drive on them like that.." I just luaghed at him told him and no and walked away. The funny thing is.. I had JUST got them replaced the week before b/c they were bad and I had it done by a friend for the price of $0. He also had my car up w/everything in plain view.. =) pure genuis. I never believe what they tell me.

To be fair, you won't actually see the warping in the rotors. Unless they are really really bad! Also, it is possible to get a defected rotor. I deal with it at work all the time. If they aren't stored laying flat, they will bend by themselves, it takes awhile, but it certainly happens. Then you have manufacturer defects like hairline cracks, misaligned bolt patterns etc..

I'm not saying he wasn't trying to screw you though, as he probably was! So please don't take it that way. What I would like to know, is how an alignment rack is going to be able to tell him the rotors are warped?!?!

I wish I had a digicam to take a pic of it, but we had a customer bring in a rotor and I kid you not, it's about 1/4" thick, the replacements we sold him were and inch counting the cooling vanes! We were all amazed it hadn't cracked in half the second he stepped on the brakes.

I'm telling you, half the cars on the road should not be on the road! you wouldn't believe how cheap people can be. I find it unbelievably sad that people will spend their money on a brand new A4 and then balk at the costs of fixing them. What were you expecting?!?

Also, get a quote people. I know in Minnesota (I assume it's similar in other states) you can ask for a quote if the job is anywhere between $200 and $2000. Ask for it in writing, with that they can't charge you 10% more over the quote without your prior approval! If a shop refuses to give you a quote on something as simple as brake service or any other non major fixing, go somewhere else!

yah but all my friends are mechanics and if something was wrong with them they would know and the only reason I knew they were fine is cuse it was done a week ago and ontop of that they told my bf the same thing and his were fine also and he works on cars so he knows =) so its all good he was trying to get me one. Yah thats true alot of the cars on the road shouldnt be on the road, and I do find it funny cuse its a good point that people spend tons of money on a car but dont take care and fix it cuse it costs to much

AMEN...
theres a reason why I do my own maintance and as many of the repairs and swaps as I can...
CHEAPER
I KNOW WHATS BEEN DONE...

Jeffy Lube Lost my business a long time ago, I took my sisters car in for a "simple Oil Change" and they tried to sell me the world! I told the guy, "Look, just change the oil and get me the F*&$ Out of here." I watched him do the change and just poor customer service!!

wHAT IF THE REPAIR HE RECOMMENDED WERE NEEDED. iF THE BElt WAS BAD, WOULD YOU RATHER IT BRAKE ON YOU ON THE ROAD OR PAY THE $100 FOR A NEW BELT. If the brakes are low, do you want the tech to say something then ,or wait until you need breaks & rotor

Hey! I know what needed to be rapaired on the car and what didn't. He tried to change/charge me for a new air filter: I had him open it and we both saw the filter and then he said, well maybe you can get another 3,000 miles from it. I said "Yeah". He was trying to get me to do repairs that where "Not needed at the time without a good reason". That's what got me a little mad, he was not trying to help me, he was selling me hard on that I didn't know what I was looking at with it came to car repair. I now take my sisters car to a nice little Mom and Pop Auto shop. They are nice and educate me on why certain repairs need to be done, not you need to do this, now sign here!

FishRoomPlus: How is everything though. I can't wait for tomorrow, She Gone!! By the way, just a couple more weeks till June 25th!!! Take Care!:woot:
